Recent rise in reports of crime cases has not affected tourism, says Yen Yen

GEORGE TOWN: The recent rise in reports of violent crime in the country has not affected the tourism industry, said Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen on Friday.

Although there was concern over the number of shooting cases nationwide, she said her office had not received any information that tourists were not visiting Malaysia due to safety concerns.

“We don’t hear it as an issue when we hold tourism dialogues with authorities in overseas countries,” she said after launching the 1Malaysia Contemporary Art Tourism George Town Art Trail 2013 at Seven Terraces in Stewart Lane here.
However, she added that the police ought to get to the root of the crime cases to prevent the impression that Malaysia was not safe.
