PUTRAJAYA, 26 August 2015:Penang was ranked third in VirtualTourist.com’s “Top Ten Best Street Food Cities”, voted by the travel website’s members and editors.
They described Penang as a small state and island on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia with one of the best street food spots in Asia. One member even stated he had better Indian food in Malaysia than he had in India! The Little India and Chinatown areas of George Town are noted for their hawker stalls. Char koay teow (stir-fried rice noodles), assam laksa (a tart, hot and sour fish soup), roti canai (Indian-influenced flatbread), and satays of beef, and chicken, are among the top must-try food according to them.
Bangkok and Singapore secured the top two spots respectively. Malaysia was followed by Marrakech (Morocco), Palermo (Sicily), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Istanbul (Turkey), Mexico City (Mexico), Brussels (Belgium), and Beachside Ceviche in Ambergris Caya, Belize.
