Terengganu Plans To Provide Flights To Pulau Redang

SETIU, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu government plans to provide flight services to Pulau Redang especially during the monsoon season.

State Tourism, Information, Communication and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jidin Shafee said light aircraft were being acquired to fly from the Sultan Mahmud Airport here, Paka or Gong Kedak airports.

"When the small airport project on Pulau Redang is ready, we hope to provide flights to the island, including helicopters. This is due to the encouraging influx of tourists from China who prefer to travel by air," he said after attending a programme here on Thursday.

Mohd Jidin said tourists from China loved Pulau Redang as was obvious from the number of repeat visitors but most of them were put off by transportation problems.

On a separate development, he said the target of four million tourists in conjunction with the Visit Terengganu Year 2013 was well within reach as more than three million arrivals have been recorded as of mid-September.

He added that the state had several additional tourism programmes to attract both local and foreign tourists before the end of the year.
