Agriculture Ministry Given Mandate To Develop MAEPS As Agrotourism Site

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- The Cabinet today gave a mandate to the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry to develop Malaysia Agro Exposition Park in Serdang (MAEPS) as an agrotourism attraction site.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said his ministry had been given three months to prepare a master development plan for MAEPS following the success of the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism (MAHA) International Exhibition.

"The development of MAEPS is planned not only to be the venue to hold MAHA but the main attraction site for agrotourism," he told reporters after the ministry's monthly assembly, here.

He said following discussions with the Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak, an animation theme park such as Upin and Ipin Theme Park is also in the pipeline to be built in MAEPS.

Other recreational programmes planned include accommodation at Nafas Cube and cycling activities best done during weekends, he said.

He said the ministry was currently gathering views on management of traffic and crowd dispersal and on suitable events to be held at the site continuously.
