Condor Airlines Commences Winter Service To Kuala Lumpur In 2018

FRANKFURT, GERMANY, 13 December 2017 – Malaysia Airports and Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (Tourism Malaysia) have announced that Condor Airlines, from Germany, will be commencing its Frankfurt-Kuala Lumpur route during the Northern Winter in 2018.

In relation to this, Tourism Malaysia has inked a Memorandum of Marketing Collaboration (MoMC) with Condor Airlines in a ceremony held at Condor Flugdienst GmbH yesterday, marking the beginning of a joint marketing initiative with Condor Airlines utilizing a promotional fund set up between Tourism Malaysia and Malaysia Airports.

The ceremony, witnessed by YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, was represented by YBhg. Dato’ Sri Abdul Khani Daud, Deputy Director General (Promotions) of Tourism Malaysia and Mr. Ralf Teckentrup, the CEO of Condor Airlines.

Condor Airlines had finalised its decision to operate its maiden flight to Malaysia during the World Travel Market in London last month. The airline will commence a thrice-weekly service in November 2018, utilising the A330-200 aircraft that will provide capacity for about 850 inbound passengers weekly.

With the scheduled flight by Condor Airlines, it is hoped that the European passenger numbers, particularly from Germany, will increase. Currently, there is no direct flights between Germany and Kuala Lumpur since the withdrawal of services by Malaysia Airlines and Lufthansa. Malaysia Airports and Tourism Malaysia have been working hand-in-hand in wooing airlines from Europe, and the entrance of Condor Airlines will enhance the connectivity from Europe to Malaysia.

Prior to this, Malaysia Airports and Tourism Malaysia had finalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with a view to promote, develop and increase inbound tourism globally particularly from India, China and Europe. This joint marketing initiative requires both parties to establish a promotional fund, to be used to support marketing campaigns by airlines and travel industry partners. The establishment of this initiative is timely as it augurs well for new airlines like Condor Airlines that need to develop inbound tourism into Malaysia.

YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri said, “This is a huge breakthrough for Tourism Malaysia, who has managed to draw a major deal with Condor Airlines, along with the collaboration with Malaysia Airports. I look forward to the start of the services between Frankfurt and Kuala Lumpur, which is hoped to boost the number of visitors to Malaysia, especially with the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2020.”

Managing Director of Malaysia Airports Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said, “I look forward to welcome Condor Airlines to the KLIA family come November 2018. I am happy that we are able to expand our connectivity from Europe, which will further enhance KLIA as a regional hub. Malaysia Airports will support Condor Airlines in all operational matters at the airport. I am also proud that the collaboration that Malaysia Airports and Tourism Malaysia had recently established is instrumental to woo airlines like Condor Airlines to start its operations to Malaysia.”

Condor Airlines’ decision to fly to Kuala Lumpur will facilitate European tourists to visit Malaysia. Malaysia Airports and Tourism Malaysia are keen to jointly promote the Frankfurt – Kuala Lumpur route with Condor Airlines and to ensure the sustainability of this new service. Condor Airlines currently operates 62 destinations out of a few cities in Germany including Frankfurt and Munich.
