DRIVE M7 SIC Racing Team Complete Final Preseason Test As Opening Round Approaches

Qatar, Doha – Sunday 13th March
Circuit: Losail International Circuit
Circuit Length: 5.4 km
Bike #84 Jakub Kornfeil – (Best time):2’06.299
Bike #7 Adam Norrodin – (Best time):2’07.509
As preseason testing came to a close today, DRIVE M7 SIC Racing Team riders Jakub Kornfeil and Adam Norrodin completed their third day on track at the Losail International Circuit, in Qatar.
Making a solid start, Kornfeil immediately found his rhythm around the 5.4km circuit, finishing all three sessions in the top ten and concluding day one in sixth place overall. With an increase in track temperature on day two, the Czech rider initially struggled with his feeling on the bike, before regaining his pace as conditions cooled. Having used the first practice of the final day of testing to try out some new settings on the #84 machine, Kornfeil was back on form and leading the way in P1 for the majority of the second session. The 22-year-old concluded the three day test in 11th place overall, with a best time of 2’06.299.
Riding under the floodlights for the very first time, Norrodin continued his adaptation to the Honda NSF250RW, in preparation for his debut race in the Moto3 Championship. The young Malay progressed well over the three day test, consistently increasing his experience and confidence. Having bettered both his pace and position on day two, the Moto3 rookie worked tirelessly to further improve his lap time, finishing the third and final day in 28th place overall, with a time of 2’07.509.
With just four days until the opening round of the 2016 MotoGP season get underway in Qatar, both Kornfeil and Norrodin are feeling positive and excited about their first race on board the Factory Honda NSF250RW.
Johan Stigefelt – Team Manager
“We’ve had three good days of testing here in Qatar and both riders have made good steps. We have done a lot of work with them and found a way, especially with Jakub and his average race pace, which is very strong. He struggled a little to do a good qualifying time but that’s something we have to work on for next week. We are very confident with the bike right now and there’s nothing really that Jakub wants to change; he says it’s good and we trust him. Of course we still have to continue to work more for the race, but it looks promising. Adam made some unbelievably good steps these last three days and he’s getting more confident all the time. He hasn’t crashed or made any mistakes and does everything you tell him to do. We just need to work more on his race pace. He can go fast when he’s following but on his own it’s difficult for him at the minute, but this is quite common in Moto3 and I’m confident the more experience he gets in this Championship the more he will improve on this. For next week we have to work on his own pace and push him a bit more because I know he can do better. The times for the Grand Prix weekend are going to be tight, so it’s going to be an interesting opening round.”
#84 Jakub Kornfeil
“After these last three days testing I’m looking forward to the first race next week. Today I felt really confident on the bike; we did a great job and I want to say a big thanks to my team and crew chief for their hard work getting the bike so good. Overall I feel positive; I feel much better with the Honda and I feel the bike can go much quicker still. Now I’m starting to really know how to ride it and exactly what I need from it. It’s completely different to the KTM so it’s taken a bit more time to adjust but we have made good progress. For next weekend we need to continue to work and analyse the data further. We finish the test in eleventh place overall, so for sure this is not our full potential but we have arrived at a good point and I’m confident we can continue to improve and go faster. I did my best lap time alone, so I’m very happy for this because it means that with a slip stream I can break into the 2m5s times, which is what I need to make a good qualifying for the race.”
#7 Adam Norrodin
“This test has been very good for me. I’m new to the Moto3 championship so I’m happy that I could test in Qatar prior to the first race. In three days I have learned a lot; there are still many more things I need to work on but I feel I am making progress. The test has been quite tough because even though I improved my lap time by one second each day, the overall pace was very fast and everybody was continuing to get quicker and quicker all the time. Everyone was pushing really hard but I really enjoyed it because it was like a race weekend. I have a learned a lot from this and I know better now for the season ahead. I made a good lap time but we are still working for the race next week to make it much better and I have more to give too, so I know we can improve.”
