MotoGP Fans Encouraged To Take Rapid KL Shuttle Buses To Sepang

KUALA LUMPUR, 20 October – Motorsports fans are strongly encouraged to use public transport in attending this weekend’s 2015 Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit (SIC) for a hassle-free traveling experience.

Fans have an option of travelling directly from the city on shuttle buses provided by Rapid KL or taking them from KLIA 2, which is connected to the city via the Express Rail Link (ERL).

“We would like to record our highest appreciation to SIC management for appointing Rapid KL as The Official Public Transporter again for the event, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Apart from the shuttle services from the city and KLIA 2, Rapid KL will also be providing the shuttle service around the circuit,” says Encik Mohd Azam Omar, who is the Chief Operating Officer for Rapid KL bus services.

SIC is hosting the penultimate round of 2015 FIM MotoGP World Championship this weekend from October 23 to 25, which is expected to be a sell-out event with the MotoGP and Moto3 world championships could be decided this Sunday.

Seeking his 10th world crown, the legendary Valentino Rossi holds an 11-point advantage over his Factory Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo in the battle for the MotoGP crown. In Moto3, Britain’s Danny Kent holds a 48-point advantage over Miguel Oliveira of Portugal in his bid for his first ever world crown. Moto2 has already crowned its champion in Johann Zarco but the race remains a huge attraction in Sepang with the participation of local heroes Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah and Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman and Spain’s Ricard Cardus Gonzalez, who rides for Malaysian-owned JPMoto Racing Team.

“Based on previous experiences providing shuttle services for the MotoGP event, the crowd at the circuit is massive and traffic flow is a challenge. As the Official Public Transporter, however, Rapid KL is given preferences including special lanes coming in and going out of the circuit. While the services from the city and KLIA 2 are chargeable, shuttle services around the circuit will be free of charge for the fans,” Azam said.

Bus tickets from the city from KL Sentral and KLCC are priced at RM18 for a one-way trip and RM30 for a return ticket. For KLIA 2, tickets are priced at RM10 for a one-way trip. No return ticket is offered for the KLIA2 – SIC sector.

“Fans can already purchase their bus tickets now at KL Sentral LRT Station and at KLCC LRT station. Beginning Friday when we commence services, fans can purchase their bus tickets at the bus hubs and at SIC bus hub, which will located at Parking Zone PA at the entrance of the circuit. Shuttle services will start from that point to ferry fans to their respective seating areas,” Azam said.

He added that KL Sentral and KLCC were selected as the pick-up points because of its accessability to the fans. While both are key LRT stations; but are also connected with other modes of transport networks.

“KL Sentral is connected with KTM networks including the KTM Komuter and the ETS (Electric Train Service). KLCC has the Go KL free bus service and is just next to our bus hub for that area. It will be very convenient for the fans,” Azam added.

For all three days of the event, the first bus will depart from KL Sentral, KLCC and KLIA 2 at 8am. The last bus for pick-up time will be at 12.30 pm. Bus frequencies will be between 30 to 45 minutes and traveling time from the city will be just over an hour.

“We had discussed thoroughly with SIC on the schedule to ensure fans can get early to the circuit to enjoy a host of activities that had been lined up for the event. We are made to understand that there will be a MotoGP Grand Carnival at the Mall area where fans can check out more than 100 kiosks to do their shopping and join various fun activities and have their meals. As suggested by SIC, we strongly advise fans to come early and use public transport for a hassle-free traveling,” Azam added.
