Kelantan Targets Six Million Tourists During Visit Kelantan Year 2016

KOTA BAHARU, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan state government is targeting the arrival of six million tourists to the state in conjunction with the Visit Kelantan Year (VKY) next year.

State Culture, Tourism and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Md Anizam Abdul Rahman said the total number of tourist arrivals in the state this year as at September was about three million people comprising both domestic and international tourists.

"We are expecting more tourists to visit Kelantan next year. We will be holding promotions abroad such as Hatyai (Thailand), Singapore and other places," he told a press conference on VKY 2016 here, today.

Md Anizam said the state government was targeting tourists from Thailand, Singapore, Brunei and European countries to visit the state next year.

He said through VKY 2016 themed 'Menyusuri Warisan', tourists would get to be enchanted by the cultural heritage of the people in the state.

He said the state government would be cooperating with the service and transport industry, hotels, culture and food industry to ensure the total number of targeted visitors was achieved.

He said 34 programmes including cultural performances would be held every month during VKY organised by the Kelantan Tourism Centre and the State Museum.

"We also hope to entice youths into the tourism industry as tourist drivers," he said.

VKY 2016 will be launched on Saturday (Oct 31) here at 8.30 pm.
