Positive Test At Misano Proves Invaluable For DRIVE M7 SIC Racing Team

Misano Adriatico RN, Italy – Monday 14th September
Circuit: Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli
Circuit Length: 4.2 km
Fresh from the San Marino Grand Prix, The DRIVE M7 SIC Racing Team riders took to the track once again today for a busy day of testing at Misano.
With three seventy minute sessions scheduled, the official test organised for both Moto3 and Moto2 riders, provided the team with a great opportunity to assess a number of set-up options using the new KTM chassis.
After encountering two technical problems over the Grand Prix weekend, Zulfahmi Khairuddin used his initial time on track to simulate a race run. This allowed the #63 crew to refine the set-up of their 2015 KTM machine and ensure all previous issues were fixed and able to withstand the full race distance.
Following a difficult three days trying to adjust to the new chassis, Jakub Kornfeil relished the pressure free time to carry out an extensive testing program on the #84 bike. Clocking up valuable miles the Czech rider concluded the day with renewed confidence and raring to get back on track at Aragon next week.
Both Jakub Kornfeil and Zulfahmi Khairuddin will now enjoy a well-deserved rest ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, which will take place from the 25th to 27th September.
Johan Stigefelt – Team Manager
“We’ve had a very good test here today and both riders have made significant progress. We continued with the new frame and swing arm that we received from KTM over the weekend and I’m pleased to say it’s been a success. We’ve worked very well as a team and I’m happy with the progress made on both sides; this gives us quite good hopes for Aragon. We are leaving here with a very positive feeling and that’s important for us. We’ve made some good steps forward, so I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do next week.”
#63 Zulfahmi Khairuddin
“I’m really happy with today’s test. In the first session I went out with new tyres and we did a race simulation of twenty five laps; we used the same set-up that we had for the race yesterday. Initially I wasn’t so happy with my feeling on the bike but in the afternoon we made some changes and to be honest the bike was unbelievable; it was fantastic! I could ride with the same lap time as yesterday even with a lot of wind on track. I’m feeling really positive with the bike now, so I can’t wait to get to Aragon.”
#84 Jakub Kornfeil
“Today we tried a lot of things with the bike. We especially focussed on the suspension and getting the balance as good as possible. We had three sessions that were quite windy but still the lap times were good. In the second practice we found a very good setting with the bike which I could go very fast with. We then focussed on braking stability and finding the best set up to be able to turn easily and change direction quickly and we found it. For the third session we went out on new tyres and immediately went fast but unfortunately just before the end it began to rain so we couldn’t focus on the lap time any longer. Nevertheless even with the medium tyre we were very very close and I did everything alone, so with the softer tyre, no wind and a little slipstream, for sure we could have gone faster than we’ve been here all weekend. I’m very happy that we’ve found something today. I think this test has been very positive and I’m looking forward to getting back on track at Aragon.”
