Music rocks the Towers


The musical extravaganza and free concert series Twin Towers @Live will be making a comeback to Malaysia’s entertainment calendar during the 2013 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix weekend.
Featuring a star-studded line-up of international artistes, the concert will take place over two nights at the base of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers from March 22 and 23.
The first night will feature American pop sensation Demi Lovato and South Korean boyband U-Kiss. Lovato became a Disney Channel star with her role in the 2008 movie Camp Rock, later followed by a leading role in the series, Sonny With a Chance.
She had a number of hit singles under the Disney label, as well as her own with her solo albums,Don’t Forget and Here We Go AgainHer most recent studio album, Unbroken (2011), spawned the hit single Skyscraper, and she is currently a judge on the American X Factor reality show.
U-Kiss, formed in 2008, consists of Soohyun, Kiseop, Eli, Kevin, Dongho, Hoon and AJ. The group’s breakthrough hit was Man Man Ha Ni (2009) from its EP ContiUKiss. It also had two successful albums – Only One (2010) and Neverland (2011).
The band also made its debut in Japan, and released its first full-length Japanese album, A Shared Dream, last year.
The second night of the Twin Towers @Live 2013 event will see two more K-Pop groups take to the stage. The first is seven-member girl group Rainbow, consisting of Jae Kyung, Go Woo Ri, Cho Hyun Young, Kim Ji Sook, No Eul, Oh Seung Ah and Jung Yoon Hye.
The band became a household name with the release of its debut EP Gossip Girl and a TV show debut in 2009. It has since become a success in Japan, with hit singles A and Gonna Gonna Go! and is currently working on a new album set for release this year.
The second K-Pop girl group is the quartet Girl’s Day, made up of Sojin, Minah, Yura and Hyeri. It first broke into the South Korean music scene with the release of its first mini album Girl’s Day Party 1 in 2010. Since then, it has released two other mini albums, Everyday and Everyday 2.
The girls also released their fifth digital single late last year entitled Don’t Forget Me. They also shared plans to release their first full-length album this year.
More announcements on the international and Malaysian acts for Twin Towers @Live 2013 are expected in the coming weeks.
