Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) has trained 160 young officers between Grades 41 and 48 to be tour guides and tourism ambassadors for visitors to Putrajaya.
This is among the many efforts PPj is embarking on to position the administrative capital as a tourist destination.
PPj president Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat said the corporation would also create a tourism action plan as a guide to ensure the effectiveness of the tourism programmes. “We have hotels in Precinct 1 such as Hotel Everly and Hotel Grand Dorsett. “We will also maximise the use of the Nadi Putra buses to ferry visitors from surrounding areas such as Kajang and Pinggiran Putra,” he said at the Kembara Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia di Putrajaya dinner.
The programme was a three-day, two-night event which saw 40 members of the media and bloggers visiting places of interest in Putrajaya. These included the Seri Perdana Complex, the Moroccan Pavilion (Astaka Morocco), Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque, the Botanical Park and the Wetland Park.
Aseh was proud to announce that the Putrajaya Lake and Wetland had been named by Unesco’s IHP-ecohydrology programme as one of the best managed water management systems.
“Water that flows through the 24 wetland cells is naturally filtered by the trees that we have planted. “By the time the water reaches the lakes, it is clean and has reached Class IIB, which is suitable for water recreational activities. This has made the Putrajaya Lake a preferred destination for water sports,” he said.
