Astro aims for underwater world record

KOTA KINABALU: Astro aims to set a new world record in the longest underwater clean-up and is inviting qualified divers to take part in the attempt at the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park here from April 6-13.

The event will be held at 14 dive sites surrounding the marine park here, Astro said in a statement yesterday.

Marine debris be it toxic waste, rubbish or other harmful material travel great distances, even to the most remote places of the world's oceans, damaging sea corals and causing the deaths of thousands of marine animals and sea birds every year, the company said.

Astro Kasih invites volunteers who are certified divers to be part of the environmental project, which is part of the company's corporate social responsibility programme.

Those keen to learn more about the event or register to participate can obtain details at www.astrokasih.org/beautifulmalaysia.

Volunteers who are selected will receive full-board stay, which will include accommodation and meals.
