10,000 free seats offered by AirAsia snapped up by 11am Wednesday

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians were quick to snap up all 10,000 free seats offered by AirAsia under the 1Malaysia Integration Programme by 11am yesterday.
Under the free seat campaign, return flights to eight destinations in Sabah and Sarawak (Kuching, Sibu, Miri, Bintulu, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Labuan, Sandakan) were offered from three destinations in peninsular Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Baru) with a total 417 weekly flights between the peninsula and Sabah and Sarawak.
AirAsia Berhad CEO Aireen Omar said the airline was humbled by the overwhelming response towards the initiative. “We thank everyone for their support and hope they enjoy the free seats,” she said. Fares and fuel surcharge will also be waived with passengers only having to pay airport tax.
The 10,000 free seats offered was the first of other activities that AirAsia will offer as part of the 1Malaysia Integration Programme launched byPrime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak last Saturday.
