Work with each other to boost tourism packages, says Ng

RAUB: Unity at all levels is vital in ensuring that tourism thrives and local products are marketed effectively, says Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen.

The Tourism Minister said the growth of local tourism products would not work without the cooperation of industry players and the communities involved. Citing tourism cycling packages as an example, Dr Ng said it was important for visitors to “feel the attraction of the places that they go to and check out the products and activities available”. “We have numerous ideas on how to promote local products,” she said.

“Studies are conducted before we proceed with efforts to promote these products. However, their success stories will depend on the unity and cooperation from all parties involved,” she said after taking part and launching the “Kayuhan Merdeka”, a fun-cycling activity held in conjunction with the country’s 55th Independence Day celebration here yesterday.

Some 1,500 participants of all ages took part in the 14km and 44km categories. The programme, held on the first Sunday of each month, aims to promote cycling packages as tourism products, among others.

The ministry, Dr Ng added, had thus far offered 87 such packages throughout the country. “Sabah and Pahang recorded the most number of participation.” The cycling packages, she said, had successfully promoted and generated local economic activities with the cooperation of all.
