Tourists can now experience the chilling thrills of spooky tours in Penang which are part of a new range of tourism products developed by the Tourism Malaysia and travel trade operators.

The new spooky packages would see tours conducted in creepy sites such as the state War Museum, cemeteries, funeral parlours and places associated with legends and folklore. Penang Tourism Malaysia director Sani Sham Ahmad said two packages being offered were the ‘War Museum by Night’ and the ‘Hungry Ghost Experience.’

Such packages would allow tourists to learn about the brutal horrors of war and witness activities conducted during the Hungry Ghost festival, which is widely celebrated by the Chinese community during the seventh month of the Chinese lunar calendar. “This package is however, only available during the month when it is celebrated,” he said.

Sani Sham said Tourism Malaysia was working closely with the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Penang chapter to come up with more exciting spooky packages. “This is to bring in more tourists to the state. “The state should utilise all resources to attract more tourists,” Sani Sham said at a Tourism Malaysia Penang dinner held at the Cititel Hotel on Thursday.
“We organised this dinner event to introduce two of our new staffers who have just been posted here. “We want them to know our hoteliers, the tour agents, government bodies, the local authorities and the mass media. We want them to increase their networking capacity,” he said. The two tourism officers are Muhammad Hafiz Haron and Nurul Aida Mohamed Noor.

Tourists can contact MATTA at 04-890 0106 for more details on the new tour packages in Penang.
