Tourist patrol makes debut in Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU: A trip to the city will be much safer with the setting up of the first-ever tourist patrol unit with four personnel making their rounds on bicycles.

Sarawakians Josephine Princhiss, 25, and Sandra Albert, 23, are constables in the police force who have been seconded to the unit. They are out to ensure that visitors holidaying here have a good time and someone to turn to if they encounter problems. Princhiss said she wanted to serve the people to the best of her ability.

Keeping watch: Princhiss (third from right) and Albert (left) patrolling with two male colleagues after the launch of the tourist patrol unit in Kuala Terengganu Monday.

“I am honoured to be selected in the first-ever tourist patrol unit. “The unit will patrol all the tourist spots in the city to ensure every tourist has a safe and fun experience,” she said. Her colleague Albert added that being a female in the police force was challenging. “Most people are sceptical when they see a female police personnel ... I feel it is a plus as we tend to surprise them. “We received the same training as our male colleagues and we will not take any flak from any lawbreaker or criminal,” she said.

They will be joined by two male colleagues, Che Zaidi Che Hamid, 23, and Syazwan Shuhaime, 22, in the unit. State Tourism Malaysia director Nasir Khusairi hoped the tourist patrol would present a more friendly image of the police, especially to tourists.
