MATTA: Number of travellers to hit all-time high this year

KUALA LUMPUR: Over one billion people are expected to travel worldwide this year an all-time high. MATTA president Datuk Mohd Khalid Harun said that looking at the world economy this year, the number of people travelling was expected to increase significantly compared to last year's figure of 950 million.

“The number of people travelling within, and in and out of Malaysia is also expected to increase, as it has been rising steadily year after year,” he said at a press conference for the upcoming KL MATTA Fair 2012 here yesterday. He added that the fair would have up to 1,016 booths, the highest number so far since the first MATTA fair in 1991.

Organising committee
chairman John Tan reminded travel shoppers at the fair to purchase travel insurance. “MATTA has made it compulsory for all our members to offer travel insurance together with their travel packages. “In case of an emergency, it is very important that you are insured while travelling,” he said.

Hong Leong Bank (HLB) group consumer banking COO Moey Tan also announced the bank's upgraded MATTA credit card. She said that the credit card, which was introduced in 2007, had been receiving good response and that more people were expected to sign up for it.
“Cardholders enjoy more privileges at the fair such as free entry, priority lanes, a limited access VIP lounge, gift redemption and rewards for big spenders as well as a 0% interest instalment plan for up to 12 months. “This is our fifth year of partnership with MATTA and we are proud to be able to contribute towards making the fair the one-stop shop for travellers,” she added.
Visitors who travel to the fair via KTM Komuter can also enjoy a RM1 discount off the entrance fee by showing their ticket stubs.
