Setting the benchmark

The Malaysian Association of Amusement, Theme Park & Family Attractions (Maatfa) organised an award recognition programme for its members recently who are actively involved in the industry.

The glittering Maatfa Awards Night was held at the Only World Group Grand Hall in Shah Alam, Selangor and Plantation Industries and Commodities minister Tan Sri Bernard Dompok was the guest of honour. The idea behind the Maatfa Awards was to ensure that all members would be able to maintain and bring up standards of safety, management, operations and services to higher level of international recognition.

Maatfa president Datuk Richard Kohsaid said there was a need for them to play an effective role in promoting Malaysia as a tourist destination by offering the attraction that complied with international standards. He said the awards, which will be used as a benchmark with international safety standards for local operators, would be held annually.

The awards were presented to all the winners which includes Best Museum – Ripley’s Believe It Or Not; Best Small Water Attraction – Wet World Shah Alam; Best Large Water Attraction – Bukit Gambang Resort Waterpark; Best Small FEC – Indah Manufacturer; Best Large FEC – CYC; Best New Attraction – Sepang Goldcoast; Best New Product – Park Games Equipment; Best Wildlife Park & Aquarium – Aquaria KLCC. The runners-up for Best Large Water Attraction – Desa Waterpark, Kuala Lumpur and Best Small FEC – CYC. Special awards were given to Sunway Lagoon – Contribution towards the ThemePark and Attractions Industry and 1st Green Water Attraction to Wet World Shah Alam for being an eco-friendly park.

Maatfa members and violinist Joanne Yeoh entertained the crowd at the event.
