KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is taking measures to safeguard its tourism industry – it is getting China Eastern Airlines to fly again to the state following the cancellation of several Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flights.
It is also in talks with other airlines to make up for the scrapping of MAS flights from the state to Perth, Haneda, Osaka and Seoul as part of its rationalisation plan. “China Eastern Airlines has agreed to schedule charter flights two to three times a week into the state, with a view to more flights in future,” Tourism, Culture and Envi-ronment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said yesterday. China Eastern Airlines used to fly to Sabah but the flights were later halted.
Masidi, who represented the Chief Minister at Suria Sabah’s opening, urged shopping malls to provide the best facilities as the state geared towards becoming a popular shopping destination for tourists. “They should provide good outlets, affordable and quality goods, safety and security, and staff who pay attention to customers.“They must also ensure that the toilets are clean because dirty toilets are the main complaint from our visitors.”
