Malaysian Makes It Into The International Scuba Diving Hall Of Fame

Recognised for his contribution to the growth of recreational diving in Sabah, Mr. Clement Lee from Borneo Divers was inducted into the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame (ISDHF) on 8 November 2011 in Cayman Islands.  Founded by the Cayman Island’s Ministry of Tourism in 2000, the ISDHF was designed to honour individuals whose contribution to the sport has been immeasurable.

Mr. Clement Lee is known for his efforts in promoting Sipadan Island as one of the world’s top diving sites. An advocator for the conservation and protection of the environment, he is also a board member of the Sabah Tourism Board and one of the four founders of Borneo Divers, the first full service professional dive operation in Borneo in 1983.

Together with various partners such as WWF, Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Environment, and PADI and all dive operartors, he has organised a number of conservation and awareness programmes which aims to educate divers and the public on the importance of marine conservation. Among the programmes that he has spearheaded is the annual  Project AWARE (Aquatic World Awareness Responsibility and Environment), a voluntary clean-up exercise of the beach and reef in Mamutik  Island  and Mabul Island, and has taken part actively in the Mabul Marine Week along with other dive operators.  Apart from that, together with Borneo Divers and Raleigh International, Mr. Clement has embarked on a programme to certify and teach youths from all over the world on coral replanting and conservation of coral sea beds in Mamutik island.

Mr. Clement is also currently working on promoting diving in other lesser known islands in Sabah such as Matabuan, Bohey Dulang, Si Amil and Denawan to take the pressure off Sipadan and to preserve the island’s underwater life.
