New hotel to boost tourism in Bintulu

TUNE Hotels’ latest property will open in Bintulu early next year. Tune Hotels group chief executive Mark Lankester said the opening of the 101-room hotel on Jan 3 would help promote the state’s tourism and travel industry, particularly within the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE). “Bintulu’s strategic location in central Sarawak, coupled with good air connectivity to Kuala Lumpur and Kuching, as well as being on the Trans-Borneo highway between Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, presents enormous potential for the development of tourism and other priority industries in SCORE.

“The opening of Tune Hotel Bintulu will not only provide more convenience and comfort to tourists and holidaymakers but also those on business trips,” he said in a statement. Bintulu is Malaysia’s main producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and has been identified as a growth area within SCORE. It is the gateway to the Samalaju, Tanjung Manis, Mukah, Baram and Tunoh growth nodes as well as an access point to the Bakun Dam. Tune Hotel Bintulu will be the chain’s second hotel in Sarawak, making it the second state after Selangor to have more than one Tune Hotel. The first Tune Hotel in Sarawak opened in Kuching last year.

Besides Bintulu, Tune Hotels will open a 173-room property in Kota Baru on Jan 23, making it a double celebration for the chain in the new year. Lankester said the new hotels underlined the chain’s commitment to increase its network of properties in major cities and add value for savvy travellers keen on its pay-as-you-use concept. “2011 is the start of a great new year for us and our guests. We’ve kept focused on ensuring that we remain true to our guests and deliver new hotels in central locations at great prices. Kota Baru and Bintulu are really exciting for us as one is the first Tune Hotel in Kelantan and the other is our second in Sarawak,” he added.

Tune Hotels will have nine properties in Malaysia when the Bintulu and Kota Baru hotels are opened. It also has two hotels in Bali and one in London. To celebrate the opening of the two new hotels, Tune Hotels is offering rooms from as low as 12 sen for its Malaysian hotels, Rp12,000 for its Bali hotels and GBP25 for its London hotel. The promotion is available online at www.tunehotels.com until Nov 20. The low rates are applicable for stay periods from Sept 1 to Nov 30 next year for all Tune Hotels’ existing hotels. For the Bintulu hotel the promotional stay period is Jan 3 to Nov 30 while for Kota Baru it is from Jan 23 to Nov 30 next year.
