PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines has been voted the “World’s Leading Airline to Asia” by World Travel Awards (WTA).’ The WTA gives recognition to the world’s best in travel, tourism as well as hospitality products and services. The airline was also named “Asia’s Leading Airline” and “Asia’s Leading Business Class Airline” in New Delhi last month. MAS chairman Tan Sri Dr Munir Majid yesterday said he was delighted that the airline’s role in developing the market in Malaysia had been acknowledged by WTA.

“More than 185,000 industry professionals participated in the poll conducted by WTA in over 160 countries,” said Munir, adding that the achievement proved that the airline was on the right track. “Thanks to Malaysia Airlines, those markets are now ripe for the picking which, understandably, other airlines now wish to enjoy, whether full service or low-cost,” said Munir.
He added that MAS was set on a path of growth with network expansion and enhancing passengers’ travel experience.

“We have ordered up to 55 B737-800s, 25 A330-300s and six A380s. “We will receive three B737-800s this year and the first aircraft will commence commercial flights on Nov 15,” he said.
