Agents to market tours for the disabled

TWO travel agencies in Malaysia are expanding their inbound services to cater to disabled tourists. Mat Isa Akib, tourism consultant for An Najwa Travel & Tours and director of business development and government affairs for M-Vision Travel, said both companies were looking to develop rural tourism packages for the east coast of peninsular Malaysia. Mat Isa, the two travel agencies and the Travel Writers Association of Malaysia will jointly organise a sponsored programme for 200 disabled people from December 17 to 20.

The reconnaissance trip will cover Rantau Abang, Lake Kenyir, Kuala Berang, Kuala Terengganu and Kerteh, and the package will later be finetuned and marketed to disabled clients from regional and longhaul markets. Mat Isa said there were currently few agents who offered tours for the disabled. "We can customise packages to include a private ambulance to accompany the coach or limousine and provide adjoining rooms in the resorts or hotels for the caretakers."
